Commentary on Daniel 9:24

The beginning of the prophecy as mention in the previous video is 417BC, plus 490 years takes us to 73AD the end of Old Covenant system and the end of the first Jewish War. Notice this is on the Holy City not the whole earth as many like to teach.

Daniel 9:24 (ERV)

"God has allowed 490 years for your people and your holy city, Daniel. During these 490 years, God will stop people from turning against him. Sin will be finished. People will have paid for their sins. Goodness will rule forever. The vision and the words of God's true prophets will come true. And the Most Holy Place will be anointed."

Commentary on Daniel 9:25

This verse describes the timeline for the coming of the Messiah. The "seven weeks" and "sixty-two weeks" refer to the period between the decree to restore Jerusalem and the coming of the Anointed One (the Messiah). Despite these troubled times, the Messiah will arrive according to God's timing. This is often thought to be about his first coming because the incorrect start date to this prophecy, when it's actually about his second coming.

Daniel 9:25 (ERV)

"Learn and understand these things now: There will be seven weeks of time. Then there will be 62 weeks of time. The time will begin when the message is given to rebuild Jerusalem. Jerusalem will be rebuilt for the chosen leader. But that time will be difficult."

Commentary on Daniel 9:26

After the 62 weeks, the Anointed One will be "cut off," indicating the crucifixion of Christ. This verse also refers to the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple by the Romans in 70 AD, a judgment that was prophesied as part of the consequences for rejecting the Messiah.

Daniel 9:26 (ERV)

"After the 62 weeks, the chosen leader will be killed. He will be gone. Then the people of the leader who is to come will destroy the city and the holy place. The end of that city will come like a flood. War will continue until the end. God has ordered that place to be completely destroyed."

Commentary on Daniel 9:27

The final week is often understood as a future period of tribulation. The ruler who confirms a covenant for one week could represent a future leader. Halfway through the week, sacrifices cease, pointing to significant end-time events, including a time of great distress.

Daniel 9:27 (ERV)

"Then the 'ruler' will make an agreement with many people for seven weeks. But after half of that time, he will stop the sacrifices and offerings. A destroyer will come. He will do terrible things until the ordered end comes to the destroyed city."
