From Karts To Formula
I've always wanted to race Formula 1 and truth be told I'd probably enjoy a full field of Formula Vees at the SCCA runoffs just as much as not more then winning a Formula One race with the best equipment and walking away easy. So this year my goal is to get into a Formula Vee at least seven times, whether that is practice, racing or whatever is just hit the track seven days of seat time. Like most of us I currently don't have the budget to race and that is what holds most people back from moving on from karts to cars is the increase expense. If you haven't already click the marketing link under Sponsorship in the link to find out why you don't have money. I've included some of motivation videos that go hand in hand with that link.
What are some actions steps I/you can actually take to make the transition happen. One I am going to need marketing materials with real world stats, advertisers pay per view. Meaning if I don't have any real world numbers to give them it's not going to be very realistic to ask for sponsorship money if they don't know how much they are paying per view. Obviously sponsors want someone who is honest and is going to represent there product well. If you can't be trusted with little things then how can you be trusted with big things.. Luke 16:10. If I want to move up from karting to cars I'm going to have to be well rounded and take care of my responsibilities whether that is around the house, work, family life, car maintenance, money whatever it is your not going to go far if your not trust worthy, eventually as they say the snake will bite.
So your taking care of the little stuff and your honest but no money so this begs the question where do we get such marketing material? I've struggled where to find this so my job right now is to put together something the sponsor can't deny, as Godfather pizza says. Let's be real most racers are paying out of their income that is why racing generally is considered a rich man/woman sport. Just googling the latest Formula Vee SCCA Run Off Winner Michael V in the google news it only produced 37 articles just using his name where as Michael Schumacher news articles on the Internet has produced over 3,000,000 articles. This is just one stat you can produce. So how about who is PGFracing. I am Rob Hogenmiller and I raced Pro MX and Pro Karting in the 90's and early 2000's. Now when I say Pro I mean licensed as Pro I was not making a full time living doing it and raced under the support of my parents. So let's see how many news articles I've drummed up. I've never searched for myself under news before well 102 articles came up and none of the were racing related, they were all pretty much about my uncle Rudy. No wonder my racing career ended I was generating any public mainstream news. Let me be a little more fair, an let's try some marketing material from just google search and not just the news category. I've been building up PGFracing which stands for Put God First racing for sometime making a web presence securing that name as much as I can on social media sites and today I it says I have about 18,600 legit different links on the web that either I have directly created or someone has shared something about PGFracing or something I've created. That is actually a little encouraging.
PGFracing started racing again. - Day 1 - bumping. Visit Youtube Channel For More!
Basically last time I checked a sponsor is willing to pay about 3-5 cents per view I'm not sure what the going rate is now it's been a while since I've looked and on my Youtube channel I've had a couple viral videos nothing to do about racing, but still aka the PGFracing brand. As of today PGFracing Youtube channel has had 353,913 views and 668 subscribers, so while not amazing numbers that works out to about $18,500 in real money that if someone were to partner with PGFracing.com they have instantly bought themselves around that in free marketing by partnering with the name. Again not amazing numbers however these are real world numbers. I hope you can see what I'm doing here. I'm building marketing material because in racing marketing material is hard to come by.
Other pay per view methods I don't do but could take advantage of is car wraps and advertisement on hauler. I currently drive about 19,000 miles a year and my population level is around 8,000 in one town and 500,000 in the other town, most of my miles are spent on the HWY around a 1/4 of those miles would be in high traffic area. According to all the information I'm reading on the net an average person drives about 15,000 miles and that car will pass in front of 9,000,000 other vehicles. Let's get back to what I said earlier about honest, I'm not even remotely buying these numbers. Let's break that down and say all my miles were in my 8,000 population home town and lets just say that 1/2 of the population owns a car and they all see me every day. That would mean 4,000 x 365 = around 1,500,000 million views for the year. If I'm honest and I had to guess I'd probably drive by 20-40 cars when I drive to my hometown 3 times a week and if I had to guess I probably drive by 200 - 400 cars that could actually get a good look and read or see the advertisement 2 times a week in the city. So that comes out to estimation of 220 * 52 = 11,440 on the low side. Now if I park somewhere the numbers could go up greatly. Gonna have to look into this some more and get some real results.
So there you have it some real world marketing numbers. More to come in this area as this is where most struggle I believe.
