How Much To Race
As mentioned yesterday the goal is to get into a Formula Vee at least seven times this year. So how much will that costs? Well interesting question. I've been working my way through the How To Start link which is a pdf file packed with good information and it breaks it down ranging anywhere from $5500 to $20,000+ to infinity to go racing or start up costs. I'd love to be able to build my own car as of today I don't have the skills to do that, however I am not opposed to learning. I've seen some videos to do that and by donating you can get some plans, however I believe for me a realistic plan is to purchase something in the $5,000-$10,000 range. My brother(parents) recently purchased a trailer which I believe would hold the formula car. I currently am leasing a vehicle that I believe would be able to tow the vehicle, just need to get a hitch put on it for $250.
So we are up to about a $7500 average. I currently don't have a racing helmet, suit or tires, so we are probably looking at another $1,000. I think realistically I should be looking for a total budget this year of $7,000-$10,000 out the door and seven days of seat time. I'll break it down as such.
- Helmet - $700
- Suit - $300
- Gloves/Boots,Socks - $300
- Rain Tires - $700
- Car - $5,000-$7,000
- Track Days $250-$500 x 7
That comes to a total of $8750 - $12500
The Word of God recommends that we work six days a week and there are fifty two weeks in a year, so how much do I need to make daily? Roughly $28 - $40 extra a day to go racing. I know what my bills are which are pretty low for most folks I guess, thanks to God. I need to make around $85 to $100 net take home per day to meet my family needs and racing needs. This definitely I believe is achievable. Keep in mind this is after taxes. I'm shooting for right around $2,333 take home pay per month to go racing. Let's look at my options work for someone around $21.50 an hour full time job or create a business that makes on-line that can work for me 24/7 making around $4.50 an hour.
As I said the other day racing is a rich persons sport however I do believe the Word of God states that Christ came so that your life may be abundant with joy overflowing. So whatever it is that brings joy to your life He will provide overflowing. So if it's racing that brings you joy God will bring you more than you need to have joy, if it's playing tennis, engineering, cooking, or gardening that brings you joy. If you are willing to work for it God will give you more then you need or could want. Take for example right now ya I don't have the money to go racing at the track, however there is LOTS to be learned in racing games and really provides a real challenge.
What's a sim racing budget look like?
- Gaming Console - $50-$300
- TV - to play on $50-$300
- Games - $50-$100
That comes to a total of around $150 - $700 on a budget, of course you can spend infinity on gaming if one so chooses
I am now believing that if you want it bad enough, with your mind, body and heart that God will provide a way. If we are honest with ourselves whether are goal is realized or not whatever that goal is there is always something that can be done to help you get closer to making your goal or vision come true. Even sleeping or rest can be a part of that goal. The word says God even works on your behalf when you sleep, and that you don't have to stay up late and wake up early to make your dreams or His PRO-VISION for you life come true, so enjoy the process work hard, have faith, and glorify Him in all that I/you do
